At last night’s San Carlos School District Board meeting, the Board approved final changes to the new San Carlos school boundaries. The proposed changes to the boundaries, which was floated at community meeting late in 2009, remained with a few minor changes detailed below:
A few streets within Devonshire canyon will remain assigned to Arundel
The Board added some streets currently within the current White Oaks area to now be in the Brittan Acres zone
For homes east of El Camino, only homes at Holly Street and north will move to the Arundel zone
Some stretches of the Alameda are now assigned to Heather
The plan kept with its original intent, which was to significantly reduce the amount of students at White Oaks while adding students to Heather School. The proposal caused quite a stir in the community when first announced. The Board held community meetings and listened to public input before making a few changes and adopting the final boundaries changes last night. With the impacting issues at White Oaks and the lack of capacity at Heather, it was clear that some type of re-assignment needed to take place. I believe the Board did a very good job under difficult circumstances and I applaud them for taking the issue head-on and making an informed decision.
