SCTH partners with SCEF

In what has been a long time coming, myself and Dr. Young of Young Orthodontics are proud to announce that San Carlos Treasure Hunters has partnered with the San Carlos Educational Foundation for the benefit of San Carlos schools.  This very unique and special version of San Carlos Treasure Hunters is for parents, only. We completed our sixth year of San Carlos Treasure Hunters on October 29th. A record 72 teams, totaling 230 kids and 120 parents competed for the ultimate prize.  After hearing the requests for several years, we were finally able to put together San Carlos Treasure Hunters….for Parents.  While the normal San Carlos Treasure Hunters (for kids) is always free, the parents’ version will have team spots that can be purchased through Spring Fling.  There will also be two very special Platinum Teams which can be purchased during the live auction segment of Spring Fling (see more on the Platinum Teams further down in the post).

How It Works

The parents’ version works in a similar fashion to the regular San Carlos Treasure Hunters.  Teams of four will study the San Carlos History Book, which will be provided to each team. Teams will also study San Carlos parks and any other materials associated with this year’s story, The Legendary J.P Harlow And The Treasure of 1929.

The event is scheduled for the evening of Saturday, May 19th.  This also happens to be the Saturday of Hometown Days.  The event will kick-off at 5:30 at Burton Park.  The first team to find all ten hidden clues around the city and solve the mystery of J.P Harlow, will find the treasure chest keys and receive a fabulous prize.

The Pre & Post Parties

We want everyone to have fun.  If you choose to have some adult beverages at the Pre & Post Parties, please make sure that one of your team members is the designated driver for the entire night.  This is the one rule that will be strictly enforced.  The hunt will end with the post party at The Office Bar and Grill. The winning team will be revealed and we will go over all clues and put the whole thing together for you.

Purchasing a Team

Purchasing a team is a fantastic way to support San Carlos schools.  Teams can be bought out for $500.  Teams are allowed four players.  Get together three friends and the cost is only $125, each…..or two couples can each pay $250 and form a team. Teams can be purchased at Spring Fling.  There will also be an option forthcoming through the Spring Fling site, which will allow you to purchase a team in advance.  Please note that we are only accepting the first 25 teams.

Two Platinum Teams

The live auction at Spring Fling will allow you the opportunity to purchase one of two Platinum Teams.  If you have already purchased a regular team, you can upgrade your team to a Platinum Team by having your $500 purchase apply to any live auction bid for one of the Platinum Teams.

There are two Platinum teams that will be up for bid during the live auction. No need to worry about a designated driver, as I will be your designated driver for one of the teams, and Mayor Andy Klein will be the other. Team Bredel or Team Klein….the choice is yours. We both know San Carlos very well and will get you to your destinations in record time (while abiding by all posted speed limits, of course).  We will take care of your every need during the hunt so that you can focus on winning.  Additionally, both teams will receive a personal crash course study session prior to the hunt and VIP apparel.

A Proud, Longstanding Tradition

Get ready San Carlos! Chicken’s Ball 2012 is on its way. With it roots dating back to the Barbary Coast in San Francisco in 1900, the Chicken’s Ball has been a San Carlos tradition since it first premiered in 1940.  Its primary goals: (1) raise money for San Carlos schools; and (2) build friendship in the community.  Many of the participants in the biennial event have been helping or performing in the show for many years. Spring Fling 2012 is Announced

Spring Fling is the signature event hosted by the San Carlos Education Foundation and the PTA Coordinating Council. Spring Fling is a one-of-a-kind auction gala that brings together people from all over the community to raise money for all seven San Carlos public schools. Last year, Spring Fling raised over $500,000 for San Carlos schools!

This year’s event will be held on Saturday, March 3, at the San Mateo Event Center. The theme is “Endless Education – Crave the Wave to Excellence.”

2nd Annual Night of Holiday Lights!

6:30 pm – Lighting Festivities (at the intersection of Laurel & Cherry)

The event features Festive Lights with a Snowfall Forecast , Music & Carolers, Children’s Crafts, Train Rides, and more activities! Restaurants and Businesses Open and a Holiday Performance by Big City Revue to conclude the night!

People will be strolling Laurel Street enjoying the shops and restaurants in addition to street carolers, train rides, children’s craft area and more activities. In addition, at 6:30pm a lighting festivity will take place in the intersection of Cherry Street and Laurel Street that will dazzle all onlookers.

As is tradition, Mayor Andy Klein will wish everyone happy holidays, light the street and encourage everyone to enjoy the downtown for the evening and holiday season. The event allows everyone to create an atmosphere where they take pleasure in our wonderful San Carlos downtown and its businesses.

Ever heard of Chickens’ Ball and wondered, what the heck is a
Chickens’ Ball?
In 1940 a San Carlos teacher started the San Carlos Chickens’
Ball as a way to raise milk money for all of the school children in
San Carlos. The Chickens’ Ball is a unique community show set
in the 1890’s Barbary Coast of San Francisco. Schools and
community groups perform variety skits and melodramas to
compete for pokes of “gold” just like they did in San Francisco in
the 1890’s. A distinctive San Carlos tradition, the Ball is held
every even year to raise funds for all seven schools in San Carlos.
Come join the fun and be a part of the 2012 Ball.

lights and sound? Chickens’ Ball is a community effort and requires the participation of many people on and off

The Bell Tower Haunting is the sixth installment of San Carlos Treasure Hunters and will take place on October 29th.

Teams of three, ages 9-14, are able to register their team to compete in the hunt.

Only the first 50 teams can compete.  Please do not delay as we are already 50% full.

The San Carlos Art & Wine Faire is one of the best San Carlos events each year.  This year’s event is scheduled for October 8th and 9th. The Faire takes place on Laurel Street and San Carlos Avenue in downtown San Carlos.  Wines from Coppola, Domenico, Wild Horse, Simi, Perelli-Minetti, J, Sofia, Gloria Ferrer and Ruffino will all be available. Additionally, 275 artists will have their work on display.

Annual City Creek Clean Up Day – Saturday September 17, 2011

On Saturday, September 17th, the City of San Carlos will hold its annual Creek Clean-up.  The purpose of the event is to invite all residents to play an active role in preserving and maintaining our creek and stream water-ways. 

The City of San Carlos has three main creeks which run adjacent to private properties and contribute to the aesthetic beauty of the City:  Cordilleras Creek, Pulgas Creek and Brittan Creek.  These creeks also play an important role in nature, as they provide a very delicate natural habitat to many animals and plants.  Join the effort to keep our natural water-ways clean and free of debris!

On Monday, September 19th, City Staff will pick up all creek clean-up debris bags outside of creek-side residences.  All bags must be put at curbside no later than 8:00 a.m. on Monday morning.  Please call (650) 802-4140 to be placed on the pick up list.  Please be sure to leave your name and address.
