Hewitt’s the best street in San Carlos…of course this is where I live. Naturally it’s better.
My favorite street(s) are Stanford Lane/Warwick street. I find it fascinating that it’s the only residential street that can take you from San Carlos to Redwood City between Alameda and ECR. Some terrific houses there too.
Matt,
Good knowledge…and I agree.

Seems like the slow (and below asking price) sales of homes on Elizabeth and Knoll in the past 12 months do not support your assertion.
Dear Visitor to the Area,
I could not disagree more. Isolating the two homes on Elizabeth that had numerous issues surrounding their sale (as was discussed here on the blog) and two homes well in excess of two million dollars on Knoll as support for those two streets not being two of the best streets in San Carlos is a bit of a broad assertion.
Let’s take a closer look. I looked at all homes that sold on Elizabeth since 2000 (14 homes). The average days on the market for all of those homes, excluding the two that sold within the last year, was 20.14 days. The average days on the market for all homes sold on Knoll Drive since 2000 (15 homes sold) is 16.80 days. I think you would be hard pressed to find streets that have more impressive DOM numbers since 2000.

Is Eucalyptus so noteworthy because it is San Carlos’ very own “Christmas Tree Lane?” The lots aren’t that big and the street lookwise isn’t any more noteworthy than many of the streets in the Howard Park area. The close proximity to Burton Park and downtown help, but I would say there are much “cuter” streets from an overall look standpoint. Just out of curiousity, does the “Christmas Tree Lane” factor ever deter buyers from your experience? The 13 offers on 1915 would say not, but I would guess that some people would not want their street blocked off for a month at a time.
Dear ACINTHESC,
13 offers on 1915 Eucalyptus pretty much says it all. I do agree that having your street essentially shut down during the evening hours for the month of December may be a bit of a burden, but I also think that there are a ton of people in San Carlos that enjoy everything that Eucalyptus represents. Visiting Christmas Tree Lane has become part of living in San Carlos for many families. Producing Christmas Tree Lane each year takes cooperation and help for all who live on that street….and that sense of “community” is what draws many to San Carlos.

In White Oaks, I think the section of Alberta St between Cedar and Park is charming. There are some nice old large trees and the lots seem a bit larger. I also like Eaton creek side due to its proximity to the free little train that runs on holidays!
Hi Lisa,
Good point. My kids would ride that train 24/7 if they could.

I love the enormous and usable (flat) lots on the south side of the 2100 block of Greenwood. The creek along the back makes it seem as if you have no neighbor behind you. I have no crystal ball, but I’d think it’d be a prime spot for affluent people to build lavish houses.
What about Elm, Rosewood and Baytree? Close to the park, close to downtown, VERY cute houses, great tree lined streets, close to schools….
Those are some of my favorite streets to drive through. I don’t know about the home sales there, but as a 13 year SC resident, I’ve had my eyes on that area for quite some time!
I have to put in a plug for Colton Avenue. Our lovely one block long, tree-lined street has a mix of recently remodeled, single and 2-story homes, some ranches and even a few 1920’s vintage Spanish style homes. What makes Colton really special, though, is the community. Just about everyone knows everyone else- families with kids (there are 25 kids under age 12), empty nesters, bachelors and retired folks. We have an annual block party and pumpkin carving party, which have been lasting memories for the kids. It’s not uncommon to see a bunch of guys working on a home improvement project together or seeing a group of neighbors chatting in someone’s front yard. It’s hard to find a street like this anywhere in the US in this day and age, and to find it in San Carlos is truly amazing.
