King and Queen Pets
Does your pet have what it takes to be crowned the King or Queen Pet of San Carlos? This competition, which is being offered through San Carlos Hometown Days, was the idea of San Carlos resident Allison Rak. Looking for a way to build on the Pet Parade from previous years, Rak has come up with a fun competition that will undoubtedly be quite popular given the number of pets in San Carlos.
Here’s What You Need to Know
The Pet Parade will take place on Sunday, May 19th as part of the final day of Hometown Days. All types of pets are welcome. In years past, dogs, cats, hamsters, parrots and a turtle have all been entered. Judges will be Mayor Bob Grassilli, Superintendent Craig Baker and Chloe Johnson, who is the 3rd grade Hometown Days Theme Contest Winner. Two winning pets, one male and one female, will be crowned the King and Queen Pet of San Carlos. The winners will receive a pet portrait session by Katie Baldi Photography with their portraits displayed in the window on Laurel Street. Additionally, Bow Wow Meow will give each of the winning pets a shampoo and gift certificate. Finally, the King and Queen Pets of the Hometown Days will be invited back next year to ride in a car as part of the annual parade.
In addition to the King and Queen categories, pets winners will be selected in each of the following groups: Large Dogs, Medium Dogs, Small Dogs, Cats Rabbits & Rodents, and Exotic Pets. Pre-registration is not required. Participants should come to the Burton Park baseball diamond (corner of Cedar and Brittan) at 11:00 am on Sunday, May 19th to sign up. The parade will begin at 11:30, with awards to follow at 12:30.

Thanks for the post, Bob! To give credit where credit is due, Katie Baldi was the one who came up with the King & Queen idea. The pet parade has been a Hometown Days tradition and always a lot of fun. As Angie Ghuloum, who is co-chairing the event, and I were brainstorming fun ways to recognize the winners this year we asked Katie if she’d photograph them for display in her shop. Not only did she say “yes,” but she came up with the great idea of honoring them with King & Queen titles. Given all of the awesome pets in San Carlos, we are hoping that lots of people come out to walk their pets down the runway and vie for the title. It should be a lot of fun!
